OUT of the ashes of the band Smaller rose The Sums, with a stronger arrangement and a renewed swagger.

Based in Liverpool, Smaller were a part of the UK Brit pop scene who smashed into the indie top 10 with classic singles taken from album Badly Badly – Stray Dogs and Bin Bags, God I Hate This Town and Is (with Noel Gallagher on guitar). They toured with The Stereophonics, Catatonia, Paul Weller and Oasis.

Singer/song writer Peter Digsy Deary’s friendship with the Gallaghers is well documented. They’ve jammed together, written together and Noel immortalised him with the song Digsy’s Dinner on Definitely Maybe. He’s also mentioned in the title track of the Oasis album Be Here Now in the lyric “Your s**t jokes remind me of Digsy’s.”

But Digsy and Chris Mullin decided to end Smaller and take a new avenue of creativity and formed The Sums

This autumn, they launch their debut album, If Only, with a gig at The Zanzibar on October 29. I caught up with Digsy this week to find out more…
